LEWISTON - La Rencontre will hold the first meeting of the season Friday, Oct. 6, at the Franco-American Heritage Center, 46 Cedar St. People wishing to have meal and who want to speak only French for two hours are invited.

The gathering is a monthly event where approximately 200 people meet to have a good time. The luncheon at 11:30 a.m. will feature lobster rolls, chips, pickles, beverage and dessert for $6.50 a person.

The event is sponsored by the Bennett Breast Care Center. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and a brief talk will be given by cancer survivor Claudette Caron on the importance of getting mammograms.

The entertainment will be Mary Murphy Dubois. Murphy-Dubois is a native Maine musician and independent recording artist. She appears as a soloist and with bands as vocalist, pianist and harpist.

Locally, she performs with the band Damaged Goods. At La Rencontre she will feature all French tunes.

If interested in attending, contact Claudette at 786-6936 or call the center at 783-1585.
