Lest we get carried away with the thrill of American power over a cringing world, we must consider the costs.

Ignoring the frightful blood and miseries abroad, $100 billion distributed among the 50 states could have been so nice for “broke” Maine and our quality of life.

As it is, local flag-waving troop supporters are already salivating over blood oil and coveting the infidel.

We should hope cooler heads will quickly organize relief efforts to dampen the spirit of terror and revenge.

Some locals bemoan a 2 1/2-cent gas tax raise and see no connection that our oil lust was the principle motivation in triggering “just cause.”
