I sometimes can’t begin to fathom the reasoning of politicians. After reading Rep. Michael Vaughn’s column on medical insurance, I take issue with every point he made (April 16).

First, the “free” market in every form has proven it cannot work. More people in the U.S. cannot afford medical insurance than ever before and rates keep going up, far exceeding inflation.

Remember most people have medical insurance through their employers; businesses bear even more of the increases than we do. That’s why we don’t get raises any more.

How can most of the rest of the world be wrong about socialized medicine?

This is why we are less competitive with the rest of the world.

As far as risk pools, the larger the pool the cheaper the cost. If all the people in the U.S. are in the pool it would be less money.

Think about not needing workers compensation for the medial needs of an injury. How about our veterans getting good care from local hospitals. Losing a job and not losing coverage.

I know I’m ready!
