I am writing in reference to Rep. John Richardson’s suggestion that Maine devise new tax measures to enable our state to more fairly factor “out-of-staters” into our revenue raising.

Several years ago during a conversation with a then Maine state legislator, that person said to me, “I am paid to represent people who are too wealthy to pay taxes to Maine even though they own expensive second homes in our state.”

That made me angry then and it makes me angry now!

The unfairness of allowing such wealthy people to avoid their fair share of taxes while Maine people with far fewer assets pick up the tab should be addressed.
