1921 – 2003

YARMOUTH – Rita A. Marquis, 81, died Saturday, July 12, at Brentwood Nursing Home.

She was born Aug. 7, 1921, in Van Buren, the daughter of Leonard and Alice Sirois Parent. She attended Van Buren schools and moved to Lewiston in 1941.

She married Albert J. Marquis on Aug. 2, 1942 and resided in Lewiston. She was employed at the woolen mills for many years. One of her greatest joys was to be with her grandchildren and children. She loved to cook and sew. She was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church, Brunswick.

She is survived by two daughters, Nancy L Ashe and her husband, James of Cumberland and Christine Marquis of Orono; a son, Albert J. Marquis Jr. and his wife, Susan of Scarborough; two brothers, Reno Parent and his wife, Adrienne of Van Buren and Ronald Parent of California; a sister, Irene Johnson of Braintree, Mass.; three granddaughters, Whitney Ashe of Arlington, Va., Jasmine Ashe of Cumberland and Shellie Marquis of Bangor; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Albert J. Marquis Dec. 8, 2001; her son, Gerald A. Marquis Dec. 11, 1966; two sisters, Cecile and Theresa; and a brother, Claude.
