AUBURN – A public hearing on the proposed county budget will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, in the Superior Court courtroom.

The proposed budget stands at $9,273,527, which is $214,160 more than this year’s budget.

The Budget Committee started with a spending plan totalling $9,455,817 and over six weeks of meetings with department heads whittled it down by $396,450.

Budget Committee Chairman Paul Labrecque said the proposed budget show $6,503,053 to be raised from taxes. That is $39,447 less than in 2003.

Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Guy Desjardins recommended changing the method of serving civil process papers by using more private servers. The supervisor of sheriff’s officers who serve civil papers, Lt. Larry Hamann, will retire in a few months. Desjardins suggested that a sergeant, at a lower rate of pay, could replace Hamann.
