TURNER – Interested residents are being urged to attend a public hearing Tuesday for a town grant request of $100,000 for accessibility improvements and an addition to the Boofy Quimby Memorial Center.

The hearing will begin at 7 p.m. at the center and be followed by the regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen. Frequent users of the center, including senior citizens, snowmobilers, the Turner Athletic Association, and Boy and Girl Scouts, are requested to attend in support of the grant request.

Voters at a Dec. 5 special town meeting approved committing $84,000 from un-appropriated surplus as up-front money in support of the grant request. A total of $184,000 for the project is expected to cover making the entrance to the building and the bathrooms accessible to the handicapped, and adding a second floor addition with a ramp.

Holding the hearing to measure town support is a requirement of the state Office of Economic Development, which issues the Community Development Block Grants.
