Elizabeth Christine Barnes Noble
1925 – 2009
FARMINGTON — Elizabeth Christine Barnes Noble, 84, a resident of Wilton, passed away at Orchard Park Center for Rehabilitation on Wednesday, Dec. 16.
She was born Dec. 10, 1925, in New Haven, Conn., the daughter of Horace W. and Geraldine (Noss) Barnes of Hamden, Conn. She graduated from Centenary College and attended the Yale School of Fine Arts. She was an accomplished wildlife artist, especially known for painting animal subjects on slate under her artist name Bettina Noble. Her work was successfully exhibited and sold in shops and galleries all over New England.
She married William R. Noble of New Haven, Conn., in 1954. In 1956, they moved to North Scituate, R.I., where they lived for 33 years restoring a New England home built in 1729 they named “Hidden Wells.” Betty loved animals, gardening and the outdoors. She was the president of the Gention Garden Club in North Scituate.
In 1991, she and Bill retired to Wilton. She continued her wildlife painting and gardening. She was the president of The Garden Club Federation of Maine and was actively involved in the Monday Club. She and Bill loved to travel and their journeys took them to England, Africa, and sailing all along the eastern coast of the United States.
She is survived by her husband, Bill; two sons, Randy Noble of Wilton and Steve B. Perrins and his wife, Susan, of Placerville, Colo.; a daughter, Gleyn C. Noble of Henniker, N.H.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
