LEWISTON — The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, at the Ramada Inn. A social half hour will be followed by lunch at noon. After the speaker, there will be a business meeting conducted by Richard St. Amand, president, with readings of the secretary and treasurer’s reports by Paul Ouellette, secretary/treasurer. Any old or new business will be discussed.

The Legislative Committee members, Claire Breton and Roland Metayer, will give an updated report on recent federal and state news and affiliated issues of interest to the NARFE members.

The guest speaker will be Margaret Ross, from SeniorsPlus, a Medicare counseling specialist, who will present a program on Medicare benefits and coverage. Ross has been an avid volunteer for SeniorsPlus for the past nine years; her work has become an integral part of SeniorsPlus outreach by counseling hundreds of individuals by traveling to rural areas to provide direct services to consumers. Because she keeps her knowledge up-to-date in the ever changing world of Medicare she also participates in assisting with additional training of SeniorsPlus staff and other volunteers.

Ross serves SeniorsPlus as a member of the board of directors and has demonstrated an amazing level of commitment of her time of more than 700 hours per year to SeniorsPlus. In addition to volunteering with SeniorsPlus she is a trustee and officer of the CMMC College of Nursing and Health Professions, a board member of the statewide Maine Association of Retirees, and board member and officer of the philanthropic Women’s Hospital Association of CMMC. On May 27, at the United Way of Androscoggin County annual meeting, she was presented the prestigious Geneva Kirk Award for Community Service.

Members attending are asked to bring an unwrapped toy to the meeting to be donated to St. Vincent de Paul for distribution to needy children.
