1928 – 2015
LEWISTON — Maurice Adrien Boisvert passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, Feb. 17.
He was born in Lewiston on Feb. 9, 1928, the second son of Georgine Poirier and Archilles Boisvert, and had recently celebrated his 87th birthday. He was a proud veteran, having served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1946 to 1949.
After the military, he married the love of his life, Irene Auger Boisvert, on July 1, 1950; they would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this summer.
Maurice worked most of his adult life in shoe factories, starting as a shoe cutter and shortly thereafter becoming the cutting room foreman. He worked in several shoe factories in the Lewiston-Auburn area, as well as in Livermore and Farmington. After he “retired,” he continued to work on a regular basis until the age of 80.
He was a fourth degree Knight of Columbus and an avid fan of the Red Sox. He enjoyed working outdoors and was particularly fond of hunting and fishing with his “girls” and grandchildren. He was well-known for being a family man, where his family was first and foremost in his heart.
Along with his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Lucille Rioux of Gardiner, Therese Morin and her husband, Jim, of New Bern, N.C., and Donna Highfill of Henderville, N.C.; as well as seven grandchildren, Jarod Rossignol and his partner, Meghan Meuse, of Freeport, Christien Rioux and his wife, Stacy Thayer, of Thousand Oaks, Calif., Sarah Rossignol and her partner, Jeff Albright, of South Portland, Nicholas Rioux and his wife, Erin Rioux, of Byfield, Mass., Darcy Guilmette, Wesley Guilmette and Alex Koris, all of Hendersonville, N.C.; and two great-grandchildren, Bailey Guilmette of North Carolina and Adrian Rioux of Massachusetts. He is also survived by a sister, Yvette Gagnon, of Lewiston.
He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Henri and Bertand; and his brother-in-law, Gerard Gagnon.
