Nov. 8 is Election Day, and that should mean that this long presidential campaign is over. But the campaigns are nowhere close to winding down.

There is plenty of coverage to keep everyone up to date with what’s happening on the campaign trails. But we want to share three charts about the election that may help you understand what will happen on Election Day.

According to this chart, Maine has the highest percentage of registered voters and one of the best voter turnout rates.

Daily Kos Elections has a map of Nov. 8poll closing times across the country. All times are Eastern. So California closes at 8 p.m. their time but it’s 11 p.m. in Maine.

Speaking of Maine, all our polls close at 8 p.m. but opening times vary by municipality. Stay tuned for a list of local polling locations and times.

Also, Florida, North Carolina and Ohio are key states for winning this year’s presidential election. Their polls close at 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. By the time we get done voting, we may have a real good idea of how the election is going.

Now let’s look at how the projections for Election Day look. We have a map from the Washington Post with state-by-state projections. It uses data from The Associated Press.

We’re not using this to predict the outcome of the presidential election. But it’s a snapshot that is very likely to change. Especially on Tuesday.

Speaking of Tuesday. At 7 a.m. all this data will be cleared out, and the map will become the place to track actual Election Day results. Like the second chart shows, it’s going to get real interesting about 7 p.m. So tune in to see how it turns out.

We are going to keep up with the local, statewide and national news and results at SunJournal.com on Election Day. If you miss it, we will have it all for you Wednesday so you can catch up.
