1938 – 2016

LEWISTON — A very sweet, gentle, funny and much-loved man ended his life’s journey on Thursday, Nov. 3.

Robert Caron was born May 20, 1938, to Joseph and Valeda (Lavasseur) Caron in Lewiston. He married Jeanne Fortier on June 13, 1964, and they were rarely apart.

He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the destroyer Newman K. Perry during the Cuban Missile Crisis, participating in the blockade. He worked as an appliance tech for more than 30 years.

His interests were varied. He loved debating, harness racing, pool, golf and road trips all over the East Coast and Canada. He was a longtime member of the Webber Avenue Club. He was first and foremost a family man who cherished those times spent together and loved attending his children’s and grandchildren’s activities.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne of Lewiston; son, Jaimey and wife, Denise, of Portland; son, Randy and partner, Mindy Dunleavy, of Portland; and his precious daughter, Stacey, and her partner, Rae Ann Gordy, of Portland; and his cherished grandsons, Tyler, Kyle, Jack and Benjamin. He is also survived by his brother, Richard, and his wife, June, of Auburn.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Eddie, Leo, Roger and Donald; and his sisters Irene, Georgette and Dorothy.

We wish to thank everyone at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough for their gentle caring and comfort for our loved one and the peace and serenity allowed for his family members.
