BRUNSWICK — The committee for the Alfred M. Senter Fund, a private charitable trust to benefit residents of Brunswick, Durham, Harpswell, Lisbon, Topsham, West Bath and Bath, is soliciting requests for grants.

Alfred Senter’s wish was that public charities benefiting from the Fund be involved in promoting the cultural, educational, environmental and general health and welfare of the inhabitants of those towns. The fund especially seeks to support charities for which small grants will make a significant difference.

To date, grants totaling $1.98 million have been awarded.

Senter was the owner of the former Senter’s Department Store on Maine Street in Brunswick and the Greenery Restaurant there. The property now is Senter Place and is occupied by businesses offering services to the public. The net income from Senter Place contributes to the funds in the Alfred M. Senter Fund from which annual grants are made.

Grant applications must be submitted by mail with an original and five copies by Oct. 31.
