RUMFORD — Robert A. Theriault, aka “Sponge Bob,” passed away Tuesday, Dec. 19, at home, surrounded by his family after a long bout with cancer.
He was born in Rumford on June 12, 1944, to Alice and Arthur Theriault.
Bob drove a tractor-trailer for Currier’s of N.H. for many years; he then worked for the highway department for the towns of Woodstock, Bethel and Rumford. Upon his “retirement” at age 72, he drove a potato truck for Sunday River Farm.
He was an avid rock collector and liked to work on anything with a motor, including stock cars.
Surviving are his wife, Sandra Thurston Theriault; children, Mark Theriault of Milton, and Brenda Drew and husband, Steven, of Waterboro; grandchildren, Hollie Vitale, Heather, Alan and Ryan Theriault, Maxwell, Alexander Drew and Bethany Sinnett; sisters, Betty Blaisdell of Vienna, Susan Rosenburg and husband, Timothy, of Woodstock; and a brother, Paul Theriault and wife, Marilyn, of Taberg, N.Y.
He was predeceased by his parents; and a grandson, Barrett Sinnett.
