FARMINGTON — A public open house reception for Sugarwood Gallery “artist of the month” Mary McFarland of Farmington will be held Friday, May 4, from 4 to 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

“I have loved fabric for as far back as I can remember — the textures and flexibility, the colors and patterns. It seems there is always something new to try with this medium, from clothing design to fabric art and functional items, McFarland said.

She had her own clothing shop from 1977 to 2000. After closing her shop, she continued making custom clothing, but began to focus more on fabric art. One of her larger pieces was created for the chapel at Franklin Memorial Hospital in 2005 and still hangs there.
