JAY — A Livermore Falls man with five outstanding arrest warrants was taken into custody after a scuffle with police near Franchetti’s Home Town Market on Wednesday.

Joshua Hiscock Franklin County Detention Center

Joshua Lee Hiscock, 36, was arrested on a felony charge of unlawful possession of heroin and misdemeanor charges of assault, refusing to submit to arrest and operating while license suspended or revoked, according to Sgt. Russell Adams of the Jay Police Department.

Hiscock was also arrested on five warrants, four for failure to appear in court and one for probation revocation, Adams said.

Officer Dylan Rider saw Hiscock drive a pickup truck into the market parking lot and get into the passenger seat. When the officer approached him, Hiscock fled across Main Street to Jewell Street.

Rider tackled him and the two scuffled before Hiscock took off running again and was eventually shocked with a Taser, Adams said.

Rider took Hiscock to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington for treatment. Hiscock was then taken to the Franklin County Detention Center in Farmington. At the jail, officers found what they suspected was heroin is Hiscock’s wallet, Adams said.

Afterward, Rider and Officer Stephen E. Gould of the Livermore Falls Police Department went to the hospital for exposure to blood. Rider was also treated for minor cuts and abrasions, Adams said.

Hiscock was being held without bail at the jail Thursday night. He is scheduled to go before a judge Friday.

A conviction for heroin possession is punishable by up five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000. Convictions on the misdemeanors carry maximum penalties of six months to 364 days in jail and fines of $1,000 to $2,000.
