FRYEBURG — A fire Wednesday morning severely damaged a home on Smarts Hill Road. There were no injuries, the fire chief said.
The Fryeburg Fire Department received the call at 8:20 a.m. and found a 2½-story wood-framed cottage at 269 Smarts Hill Road filled with smoke venting through the roof. Firefighters were on the scene for four hours battling the flames and extinguishing the blaze, Fryeburg Fire Chief Andrew Dufresne said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by members of the State Fire Marshal’s Office, who were at the scene Wednesday afternoon.
Mutual aid was provided by crews from Lovell, Saco Valley and Sweden.
Smarts Hill Road is a dead-end road running from Route 93 in Lovell to the northeast section of Fryeburg.
