Susan Mallet of Turner has been checking the web, reading posts and making inquiries to learn why her federal stimulus check has not found its way into her bank account — and she is not alone.
Mallet receives Social Security benefits and discovered that other people who receive survivor or disability benefits, railroad retirement benefits, Supplemental Security Income or Veterans Affairs benefits have yet to see their latest stimulus checks.
“From what I am hearing, what we are seeing posted on Tweets and other sites, they are saying we are going to wait a real long time to get our stimulus checks,” Mallet said. “Social Security (recipients) could sure in a heck use these checks right now.
“I have to dump another $350 into the oil tank,” she said. “What the heck is going on? Where is the check?”
Mallet said she’s been unsuccessful so far in her effort to get answers.
“You can’t find anything out,” she said. “I am not trying to make a stink, but I mean you can’t even find it on the IRS tracker when we would be getting our checks — mine or my husband’s.”
According to published reports, the next group of stimulus payments for those receiving benefits such as Social Security have not been prepared yet. Last year’s stimulus payments took two to three months to be delivered to Social Security recipients.
“This process also explains why recipients are feeling anxious about the next round of payments, which are issued by the U.S.Treasury, and why the Internal Revenue Service’s online tool to track payments does not provide clear answers simply because those checks have not been issued — yet,” according to published reports.
Mallet wasn’t the only person making inquiries. SeniorsPlus was also receiving inquiries about the delay in stimulus payments.
“Typically, we do get calls about that,” CEO Betsy Sawyer-Manter said. “I haven’t gotten any information at all on the cause of any delays. I just assumed (the checks) were going out in some fashion.”
