The U.S. Coast Guard responded Saturday evening to a disabled fishing vessel 50 miles southeast of Vinalhaven.
Petty Officer Michael Aldrich said the crew of the Boston-based Padre Pio used a satellite phone to report engine trouble Saturday, and a Coast Guard cutter was dispatched to tow the 65-foot-long dragger to Rockland. That crew was still en route to the fishing vessel just before 8 p.m. Saturday and Aldrich anticipated the crew would arrive in Rockland on Sunday morning.
“It’s pretty common to get disabled vessel calls,” Aldrich said. “Any number of things can go wrong.”
Aldrich said the Coast Guard was in regular contact with the four people on board, none of whom was injured.
