Althea N. Austin

SCARBOROUGH – Althea N. Austin died Oct. 10, 2021, at Enclave Assisted Living, in Scarborough, at the age of 93. Born in Auburn at home on August 7, 1928. Althea was a daughter of Louis and Taso Naum, who immigrated from Albania to the U.S. through Ellis Island in the early 1900s.Althea attended Auburn schools and loved being cheerleader for Edward Little High School graduating in 1946. She married Earl B. Austin, Jr. on June 7, 1948. Earl founded Austin Associates CPAs in Auburn in 1950. The couple was married for 68 years before Earl’s passing in 2015.In their earlier years, Earl and “Tini” travelled together on many Kora Shrine trips, and would vacation in Florida following every tax season. Their favorite pastime was attending ELHS sporting events cheering on their children and grandchildren and the many friends who participated with them. They also enjoyed being with their extended family on most Sundays and weekends in Freeport at their beautiful oceanfront “camp!”Althea is survived by her two children, Stephen B. Austin and Cynthia Sloat, wife of Brad Sloat. She was lovingly known as “Mimi’ to her grandchildren Andrew and Jeffrey Sloat, husband of Liisa Sloat, Jonathan Austin and partner Hannah Shumway, and four great-granddaughters Cecelia, Abigail, Althea and Aurora Sloat. She will be missed by many including niece Diana Dussling, Claire Naum, wife of George Naum, dear friend Louise Robert and adopted son Steve Stern. She was predeceased by Earl B. Austin, Jr., grandson William Austin, sisters Pollika Costa and Catherine Akerley, brothers Nicholas and George Naum and sisters-in-law Dorothy Buchanan and Arlene Martin.On line condolences can be shared at http://www.thefortingroupauburn.com Visiting Hours 11 a.m. – 1 p.m, Fortin Group Auburn TUESDAY OCT. 19.
