Name: Stephanie Gelinas
Age: 59
Occupation: Founder and executive director of Sandcastle Clinical & Educational Services
Political experience: Currently city councilor for Ward 7; committee assignments include Auburn-Lewiston Municipal Airport Board and Lewiston Area Public Health Committee
Why do you think you’re the most qualified, or best candidate for this seat?
I am a level-headed individual who strives to enter each council meeting without a political agenda, willing to listen openly to each issue brought forward. I have and will continue to work tirelessly for my constituents. As a current civil servant, I bring to the table continuity, which I believe is important for our city. I have a deep understanding and passion for the city where I was born, raised my family and opened my business.
Please name two issues that you believe are critical to Lewiston’s future, and how you would address them.
1) Strong communication amongst elected officials and city staff. Moving goals forward is largely contingent on a team that is committed to working together and I will do everything in my power to create and maintain a healthy interchange.
2) Supporting our current businesses and attracting new businesses to our city is critical to Lewiston’s future. I am committed to assisting with economic sustainability as it pertains to our current businesses as much as I am devoted to meeting with and attracting new business options.
Do you support the New England Clean Energy Connect transmission line project? Why or why not?
YES. While I understand the controversial nature of this project, the benefits from NECEC are significant, namely meaningful property tax revenue. The city can reduce the local property tax rate, in addition to considering some major community priorities, such as housing, public works projects, education and economic development.
