LEWISTON — Edward Little junior Andrew Casares broke another Red Eddies swimming record Saturday as the Edward Little/Leavitt co-op beat Mt. Ararat in a meet at the YWCA.
Casares set a new program record in the 200-yard individual medley, finishing in a time of 2:07.16 to break Shawn Bazinet’s 1989 record by more than a minute. Bazinet was on hand at the meet to watch Casares and the team compete, and to collect his Edward Little record board piece for the 100-yard butterfly, a record which Casares broke earlier this season.
Edward Little/Leavitt also set a new program record in the 200-yard freestyle relay, which Casares was a part of. Isaac Raymond, Gavin Holbrook and Chase Leonardo swam the other legs to help the relay team finish in 1:40.50, breaking a record set in 1998.
The Edward Little/Leavitt girls also beat Mt. Ararat in the team competition, with Mya Vincent, Jalee Boucher and Kora Martel each winning individual events.
