PORTLAND — Mainely Character is accepting applications for scholarships for Maine high school seniors graduating in 2022 and planning to attend a post-secondary school.
Mainely Character, which plans to award at least 10 $5,000 scholarships, has been awarding them to students of character since 2001, according to the all-volunteer organization.
Each year, more than 200 seniors from high schools across Maine apply for scholarships awarded by Mainely Character and its partnering sponsors. Applicants provide personal stories that demonstrate the four aspects of character: integrity, concern, responsibility and courage.
Applications are panel reviewed and selections are made following a personal interview and reference checks.
This year’s scholarship sponsors include: 100+ Women Who Care, Southern Maine; Biddeford and Mechanics Savings Charitable Foundation; Bristol Sea Foods; Machias Savings Bank; Market Decisions Research; Northern Light Health; Partners Bank; Reed and Reed; Richard and Anne Cass; Kathy and David Harrison; Timothy and Claire Heard; and Ann Spaulding.
