100 Years Ago: 1922

The regular meeting of the High Street Congregational Church Men’s Club was held in the vestry Wednesday evening, with an attendance of 65. The feature was an elaborate wireless telephone demonstration under the expert direction of Donald Dean, Kenneth Marston, and Stephen Trafton, all attendants at the church. The boys had Installed a complete receiving set in the vestry so that every man present was given ample opportunity to “listen in”  to the musical concerts that fill the air about us since the development of the wireless telephone. Great interest was evinced and the boys were complimented on all sides for their skills.

50 Years Ago: 1972

A concert by the Brass Triangle, an Instrumental trio will be given at the Bates College Chapel at 8 o’clock Friday evening. Members of the trio, which was founded in 1959, are Richard Glyen, trumpet, Edwin Goble, French horn, and Douglas Wauchope, trombone. Given has played with the Atlantic Symphony Orchestra in New Brunswick, Canada, The Boston Symphony, the Boston’s Philharmonic, and the Boston Ballet Company. Goble and Wauchope have played with the Boston Symphony, The Boston Pops and the Boston Opera Company. The trio primarily performs music by contemporary French and Dutch composers, but they also will play Beethoven’s Trio for two oboes and English horn.

25 Years Ago: 1997

Barbara Randall will join the Evergreens Seniors Club to read a selection of valentine stones and poems at a meeting at noon Friday at the YWCA, 130 East Ave. All are welcome. Randall is a retired educator and a well-known volunteer leader of the YWCA’s Boxcar Lunch travel series. Evergreens members are asked to bring a bag lunch and a favorite Valentine’s Day memento. Dessert and coffee will be provided by the YWCA.
