AUBURN — An Auburn-area girl was among the top three winners of UScellular’s fifth annual Black History Month Art Contest, held with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine.

Aubree T., 9, who goes to the Auburn Clubhouse, finished third and received $100 for her drawing of Zora Neale Hurston.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine members were encouraged to create their original pieces of artwork in recognition of influential Black STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) icons, including historical figures, world leaders, scientists and educators.

Ten finalists were chosen by representatives from the Boys & Girls Club based on creativity, quality, interpretation, clarity of theme and overall impression. Public voting for the finalists was made available online throughout February. In addition, the finalists’ artwork was digitally displayed in UScellular stores at 730 Center St. in Auburn, 300 Gallery Boulevard in Scarborough, and 95 Rock Row in Westbrook.
