YARMOUTH — Oxford Hills scored six runs in the second and four more in the third to run away with an 11-0, five-inning victory over host Yarmouth in a softball season opener Friday.
Maddy Miller earned the shutout in the circle for the Vikings, needing just 69 pitches to get through five innings.
Allyson Day had a pair of RBI singles, Miah Gallan had a two-run single in the second and a sacrifice fly in the third, and Liz Dieterich added an RBI double in the third. Gallan capped off the scoring in the fifth after singling, moving to second on Trinity Bernard’s walk and then stealing both third and home.
BOYS LACROSSE
GARDINER 11, OXFORD HILLS 2: Cody Dingwell, Cole Brann, Cam Rizzo and Kayden Weston each scored two goals to lead the Tigers to a season-opening win over the Vikings win in Gardiner.
Cole Johnson, Nate Luiz and Evan Michaud added a goal each for Gardiner (1-0-0), while Braden Dorogi had four assists. Connor Cote made nine saves.
Derek Brooks and Tristan White each scored a goal for Oxford Hills (0-1-0), and goalie Troy Edmunds made 21 saves.
MESSALONSKEE 23, MT. BLUE 0: Brady Brunelle and Walker Feagles each scored five goals to lead the Eagles to the win in Oakland.
Bryce Crowell added four goals and two assists for Messalonskee (1-0-0), while Rhys Bridges had three goals and three assists, Ian McCurdy had three goals, Cooper Eclair and Simon Bessey had two goals apiece and Brian Parent and Brady Doucette scored one each.
BRUNSWICK 14, LEWISTON 4: Sam Courtemanche had two goals for the Blue Devils in their season-opening loss to the Dragons in Lewiston.
Cody Dionne had a goal and an assist in the loss and Daven Langelier scored a goal for Lewiston, and Colton Daniels and Eli Bigalow each had an assist. Goalie Cooper Kearns made 12 saves.
Brunswick led at half 8-0.
