Joanne M. Grenier

LEWISTON – Joanne M. Grenier, 71, of Lewiston, went to her heavenly home on May 1, 2022. She was born on Feb. 24, 1951 in Lewiston to the late Thomas and Bernadette (Goulet) Grenier. She was the youngest of 18 children. Joanne graduated from Holy Family School and Lewiston High School in 1969. She went to CMTC and became a practical nurse. She started her nursing career at Togus Veteran’s Hospital.In 1976, she moved to California and worked at Fort Miley VA hospital. She spent 36 years in California near her sister, Marthe Stokowski, husband Stan, and their children. She traveled cross county several times back to Maine. She worked as a USPS mail carrier for the Alamo, Calif. post office. After retiring from the post office, she was a school bus driver for special needs children for five years. In 2012, Joanne returned to her childhood hometown of Lewiston to be close to her many siblings, nieces, and nephews. She loved her cats and took in many strays, caring for them with so much love and affection. Anyone who knew Joanne, knew she was always ready with a welcoming smile and a hug. She loved to be around people and accepted every invitation to an adventure or outing with pleasure. Joanne was a devout member of the Prince of Peace Parish at Holy Family Church and was a guardian for the Eucharist at Holy Cross Chapel. She was a faith filled woman who loved the Lord, her family, church and community. Joanne was always willing to pray for people in need and to lay her hands over the sick offering healing prayers. She spoke often of her pilgrimage to Medjugorje and her devotion to Our Lady. She loved to read about Saints, and she spoke often of her faith and how joyous it would be reuniting with her family in Heaven. Joanne is survived by her siblings Claudette Guilmette and husband Raymond of Enfield, Conn., John Grenier and his wife Monique, Ginette Gladu, Pierre Grenier, Bernard Grenier and his wife Marilyn, Paul Grenier and his wife Anita, all of Lewiston, Marthe Stokowski and her husband Stan of Danville, Calif., sisters-in-law Rita Grenier of Lewiston and Sonia Grenier of Hartford, Wis.; best friend, Anita Gajewski of California; goddaughters Susan Mullin of Wethersfield, Conn. and Patricia Turgeon of Lewiston; as well as many nieces and nephews. Joanne was predeceased by her siblings Gerald Grenier, Earl Grenier, Jeannine Beaupre, Dr. Rodolphe Grenier, Bernadette Grenier, Thomas Grenier, Raymond Grenier, Madeleine Girardin, Georgette Clavet and Rene Grenier; godson, Andrew Girardin. Visitation will be held Monday, May 9, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Albert & Burpee Funeral Home.
