An interesting discussion of Hall Brook’s book, “‘Rachel Carson at Work,” was provided by Miss Lilla Pearl at a meeting of the WLU Book Review Club, Thursday afternoon at the WLU Clubhouse in Auburn. A noted author and biologist, Miss Carson was born inland in Pennsylvania, but early developed a love of nature and sea and an interest in preserving it from pollution and as a result she wrote several books on the subject. Best known of her works are “The Sea Around Us,” and “Silent Spring,” the later touching off controversy on the dangerous use of pesticides. Among others were “Rocky Coast,” “Edge of the Sea,” “Under the Sea Winds,” and “Sense of Wonder.”
