I am proud that my 35 years in public service began as a member of the Maine Legislature in 1979, representing Lewiston throughout the 1980s.

Janet Mills was elected district attorney for Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties and, in my role as a legislator, I worked with her from the beginning of her career in public service and saw firsthand the dedication, competence and passion she brings to public service.

I went on to serve Govs. Angus King and John Baldacci and continued to observe her as legislator and attorney general with great admiration.

Gov. Mills has demonstrated in her first term as governor complete competence in leading us through an historic and unprecedented period in our history. She is a uniter — let’s not go back to government by division.

It is important for Maine that Gov. Mills be re-elected.
