LISBON — A 15-year-old girl was found dead Monday evening on Canal Street.
At about 5:30 p.m. Monday, Lisbon police, firefighters and other emergency workers responded to Canal Street for the teen who had “tragically passed away.”
Police are not releasing the girl’s name or cause of death out of privacy concerns for her family.
“Although the Lisbon School Department and community have faced other tragedies in the past, there are no words to explain the amount of grief and pain that we are all facing as a result of this terrible news,” Superintendent Richard Green wrote Tuesday morning in a letter to the school community.
The Lisbon school district has activated its crisis response team and will have extra counselors at Lisbon High School throughout the remainder of the week to meet with students, families and staff.
Individuals may also call the school district to speak with a counselor at 207-353-3030, the Maine State Crisis line at 1-888-568-1112 or the National Alliance on Mental Health of Maine at 800-464-5767.
