DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am wondering if there will be any Galentine’s festivities or fundraisers like the YWCA has done in the past. I know several women who have become widows over the past year. Valentine’s Day is a tough one after losing one’s mate.
ANSWER: I was wondering this same thing just the other day. The YWCA has changed Galentine’s Day up a bit and you can go here for more information: www.ywcamaine.org/spread-the-love-on-feb-13th. It seems you might be looking for a gathering to share time and fun with other women on the 14th, but I will describe what the YWCA is up to:
The deadline for ordering a special basket just slipped by but perhaps you can use the idea for a friend. On Feb. 13, YWCA Central Maine will be delivering custom gift baskets for its Spread the Love fundraiser, formerly known as Galentine’s Day baskets.
These Spread the Love baskets that come in two different sizes have goodies. including edibles, soaps, flowers, gift cards, candles and personalized messages, and are delivered Feb. 13 across Lewiston-Auburn.
The fundraiser benefits the work of the local YWCA in helping to empower women and eliminate racism.
One event I saw in the paper is that Franklin Community Health Network is inviting all women to a Galantine’s Day event from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday. The free event is planned for the Bass Room at Franklin Memorial Hospital. Festivities are to include demonstrations by women-owned businesses, chair massages, door prizes, refreshments and women’s health information.
See www.eventbrite.com for information on “Paint and Sip” nights at various locations. This is a fun activity to share with your gal pals. You can take part in a wine tasting and paint a canvas to bring home.
These events allow women to celebrate friendship and community, while learning more about health-related resources.

Readers, please write to let me know if anything else is going on. Perhaps the writer of this letter will decide to gather up some friends so they can make their own fun.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am excited to see Luchador Tacos (featured in the Buzz article 2/1/23) is coming. I am wondering if it will have gluten-free and vegan options. I really hope so. I want to add it to healthy places to frequent.—No name, no town
ANSWER: Luchador Tacos is a chain with locations in South Paris and Windham, Maine, and North Conway, New Hampshire, so I checked out https://www.luchadortacos.com to see its menu, focusing on the South Paris location, because it is in our readership area.
I immediately noticed all of the rice and sauces are vegan-friendly, so that is a good start. And you might like the build-your-own salads and bowls that can be loaded with a protein of your choice, including beans. It is always wonderful when a new restaurant comes to town.
