100 Years Ago: 1923
Chairman Stetson of the State Board of Assessors stuck his head into the newspaper room the other day, looked around at the paper bestrewn floor, the paper-cluttered tables and desks and grinning remarked: “Cluttered looking place!”
“No, just a regular newspaper office,” corrected Councillor Owen, who entered in time to hear the remark, and whose brother is a newspaperman.
50 Years Ago: 1973
A band of Bowdoin College bicyclists rode up to the Capitol steps Monday to talk to their congressmen and raise money for their college in Brunswick. Three of the students, Terry O’Toole, a coed from Natick, Mass; Ted Lyons of Barrington, Illinois, and Fred Honold of Fanwood, NJ., pedaled more than 800 miles in a 13-day roundabout journey, to call attention to Bowdoin’s $38-million fund-raising effort. They were met on the Capitol steps by Sen. William D. Hathaway, D of Maine.
25 Years Ago: 1998
Maine Music Society will present an Eastertide Concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Second Congregational Church in Norway. The Androscoggin Chorale and a quartet from the Maine Chamber Ensemble will perform.
