LEWISTON – Phyllis M. (Mynahan) Theberge passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on April 17, 2023 at Russell Park Manor in Lewiston, after a brief illness.
Phyllis was born in Lewiston on March 31, 1930 to William and Louise (Cote) Mynahan, one of 10 children in the family. She received her early education in Lewiston, graduating from St. Joseph’s school in 1944 and from Lewiston High School in 1948. Following graduation, she trained as a lab technician at Central Maine General Hospital and worked there for 10 years.
On Nov. 26, 1955, she married Gerald C. Theberge, her husband of 45 years until his passing in 2001. Together they raised four children, Stephen Theberge (Kay) of Lewiston, John Theberge (Nan), Sherburn, Mass., Karen Ouellette (Bruce) of Lewiston, and Peter of Newton, Mass.
In 1971, with all her children attending school, Phyllis went back to full-time employment, working with children of special needs at Pathways Inc., retiring in 1996 after 25 years of service. It was a job she truly enjoyed, and she always spoke fondly of the many relationships she had with children and parents.
Phyllis and Gerry were able to travel prior to his passing including several trips to Florida where they socialized with family and friends.
Later, Phyllis took trips to New York City, Alaska and The Bahamas with her friend Pat Labonte. She also visited Ireland with her sister Eleanor and until recently she continuously corresponded with friends she had made there.
Phyllis enjoyed many hobbies and interests such as line dancing, reading, crafts, knitting and games of all types. She was a member of the Red Hat Society. She very much enjoyed family gatherings large and small, especially ones at “camp.”
Phyllis was predeceased by her Mynahan siblings, William, Dorothy, Margaret, Louise, Joseph, Maurice, Bernard, Eleanor, and Eugene.
Phyllis is survived by her four children; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Lorraine Poulin for her extraordinary friendship and care. Also, a special thanks to Lynn Adams for her guidance and help with our mother’s care.
A sincere thank you to the staff and nurses at Russell Park Manor for their excellent care and compassion during Phyllis’s stay. Additionally, thank you to the caregivers and support team from Androscoggin Home Health.
