Betty J. Nichols

AUGUSTA – Betty J. Nichols, 73, a longtime resident of Livermore Falls, passed away Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Maine General Hospital in Augusta, surrounded by her loving family following a sudden illness. She was born July 6, 1949, in Livermore Falls, the daughter of Frank and Margaret (Bubier) Merrill. She attended school in Livermore Falls. On May 13, 1967, she married Valentine Nichols of Livermore Falls. They enjoyed 49 years together before his passing on November 29, 2016. Through the years Betty worked at several of the area shoe shops, local convenience stores, a pharmacy tech at Rite Aid, their family’s King Family Cook House during the local fair season and most recently for Pine Tree Orthopedics Lab in Livermore Falls. Betty was a member of the First Baptist Church of Livermore Falls. She enjoyed traveling with her family, crafting, playing cards, antiquing with her sisters, and decorating for the holidays, especially Christmas. Betty was very devoted to her family; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy and she truly love being a part of their world. She was a wonderful kindhearted person who will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her children, Tammy Nichols Burrill and partner Mike Staples of Jay; Valerie Nichols Duval and her husband Scott of Wilton; Jay Nichols and partner Megan Cox of Livermore Falls; and Kelly Goodwin and husband Jared of Livermore Falls; 11 grandchildren, Jason Duval and wife Katy, Tyler Duval and wife April, Jakob Duval and wife Katie, Levi Pollis and partner Erin Price, Logan Pollis, Zach Nichols, Amelia Nichols, Lydia Violette – Lee, and Grace, Madison and Ava Goodwin, 11 great-grandchildren, Emma Foster, Ethan, Elaina, Ivory and Jillian Pollis, Reighlyn, Parker, Henry and Josiah Duval, Sophia and River Blais, sisters, Barbara Cook and companion Dennis Damon of Jay, and Mary Cote and husband Thomas of Livermore Falls, her brothers; Tom Merrill, George Merrill and wife Marjorie, and Rick Merrill and wife Debbie all of Jay, her sister-in-law Bridgette Merrill of Jay, brothers-in-law, Vern McDonald of Wilton and Paul Adams of AZ., and her aunt, Brenda Stewart of NC., many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Friday, May 5, at FINLEY FUNERAL HOME, 15 Church Street, Livermore Falls, Maine. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., and 4-6 p.m., on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at the funeral home. Interment Pleasant View Cemetery, 51 Fayette Road, Livermore Falls, Maine.
