NEWRY — The warrant for Newry Annual Town Meeting has been posted. The numbers are up from last year, said Town Manager Loretta Powers, since the Simonds Brook Bridge needs repair at an estimated cost of  $200,000

If the town votes to keep the Newry Church and make improvements the estimate for renovation is $210,000.

Other projects that have increased the proposed budget are the paving of Monkey Brook Rd and Wheeler Road and a parking area for town office workers. The total of those three projects is: $214,589

Additionally, the town of Newry wage increase is 4% for FY 24.

The budget includes a decrease in third party requests or donations. The new proposed amount is $33,736, down from all of the previous four years. In 2021 the actual cost had been $59, 222.48

Other increases include municipal building maintenance and utility costs with a proposed budget increase of $15,050. and the highway department expenses that will increase $304,909 with the addition of three new town signs.

They hope to replace the deteriorating wooden signs with metal ones, said Powers. Two are on the Bear River side; one is on the Sunday River side.

The total budget before adding school tax and Oxford County tax is $1,705,042.
