RANGELEY — Voters will have six candidates to consider for two three-year selectman terms during the annual Town Meeting on June 13.
The polls will be open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Town Office.
However, if people want to get a head start on voting via absentee ballot for the proposed $5.1 million municipal budget referendum and election, the ballots became available Friday at the Town Office.
Regional School Unit 78 will hold its annual districtwide budget vote at 6 p.m. on June 6 at the school. The proposed spending plan is nearly $5.5 million, which is an increase of $255,305, or 4.9% more than the current budget, district Business Manager Roxanne Tanner said Friday. Whatever amount is approved will go to a yes or no validation vote on June 13 in Rangeley, Rangeley Plantation, Dallas Plantation and Sandy River Plantation.
On the municipal side, running for two selectman positions are Anthony Atkinson, Wendyll Caisse, Cynthia Egan, James Jannace, Shelly Lowell and Allison Mason, according to Rebekah Carmichael-Austin, town financial director. Egan and Lowell currently hold the positions.
The proposed town spending package for 2023-24 reflects an increase of $423,000 over the current budget, Carmichael-Austin said. The plan does not factor in revenue.
Increased electricity costs contributed to the increase.
It also does not factor in the town’s share of RSU 78 or Franklin County budgets, which have not been finalized.
Among the items contributing to RSU 78’s increase are energy costs, the addition of an elementary education technician for the incoming kindergarten class, loss of $35,108 in state subsidy due to a decrease of identified students in special education, and because the district is a minimum receiver of state education subsidy, according to Superintendent Georgia Campbell.
