DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Franco Center has a wonderful group of volunteers, and we are in need of adding additional volunteers to help with specific events on our calendar. On July 14 and 15, the Franco Center will hold an open house with free admission, tours, and lots of activities from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days. We need volunteers to greet people and guide them through the building.

On Oct. 19, 20 and 21 we will host our indoor Fright Night walk and we need volunteers to help set up the scary scenes in our basement. We also need costumed actors to play the roles of ghoulish characters during the event. The event takes place during the day and night, but volunteers can select whichever slots are convenient.

On Dec. 15 and 16, we will hold our Sights and Sounds of Christmas variety and light show. For this event, we need performers, greeters, ushers and more. All volunteers can sign up with or ask questions of Susan at 207-689-2000 or boxoffice@francocenter.org. Thank you Sun Spots and your readers! You all have been very helpful to the Franco Center in the past. We are at 46 Cedar St. in Lewiston. Your readers may recognize our building as the former St. Mary’s Church. Our events are open to the public and people do not need to belong to a club or be of a specific heritage to attend. — Denise, Franco Center, Lewiston

ANSWER: The Franco Center is a performing arts organization that celebrates Franco-American heritage and culture and the cultures of others from places around the world, according to its website. “Our Francophone history is a legacy handed to us by generations of our brave ancestors who relocated here from France, from Quebec, and from all across the globe.”

The center presents programs in popular, Broadway, folk and symphonic music, solo instrumentalists, chorales and choirs, and other contemporary music, dance and theater, theme night series, comedy shows, and other informal nightclub performances.

Founded in the year 2000, the Franco Center is a nonprofit organization governed by a volunteer board of directors and operated by a few dedicated staff members and countless volunteers.
