ROXBURY – Theodore “Ted” Gotto, 78, of Roxbury, passed away at his home, on Saturday, July 1, 2023, with his loving family by his side.
Ted was born in Rumford, Maine, on Oct. 4, 1944, to Francis (Frank) Gotto and Amelia (Parrella) Gotto. He graduated from Mexico High School and went on to attend St. Dunston’s University’s pre-medical program, on Prince Edward Island, Canada, and later graduated from the University of Maine at Farmington with a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry. He served six years in the Army National Guard and worked for 35 years at the Rumford Paper Mill.
On Sept. 4, 1965, at St. John’s Church in Rumford, Maine, Ted married the love of his life, Priscilla Desrosiers. Together they raised two daughters and made a lifetime of memories surrounded by an abundance of cherished family, friends and neighbors. Everyone in Ted’s life knew him to be an incredibly hard-worker, always striving for perfection. He was a jack-of-all-trades and master of many. His passion for learning new things was limitless. From raising cattle, taxidermy, woodworking and bee-keeping to fulfilling his dream of piloting his own plane and building a beautiful home. When he wanted to accomplish something, there was no stopping him.
Ted had so much love for animals and enjoyed raising them. He was an avid outdoorsman who spent his lifetime enjoying the great outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, which gave him the opportunity to spend precious time with friends and family. After retiring, he and Priscilla were blessed with time to travel the country in their motorhome. There were many trips from Disney World with their grand-children, to several summers spent in Alaska and so many beautiful stops along the way.
Anyone who knew Ted, knows what a kind, respectful and loving person he was, with a terrific sense of humor. He enjoyed spending time with others and making new friends wherever he went. His Sunday morning gatherings with dear friends was something that he looked forward to, over many years.
He was a man with incredible strength and patience who taught many things to his children, grandchildren, and many others. From his example, they learned to work hard for what you have, treat others with kindness and respect and to always make time for the things and the people that you love. No matter how long his own to-do list was, whenever help was needed, he could be counted on to be there to guide and lend a hand. He was a hero to his grand-children who looked up to him and adored him as much as he did them.
Ted was an amazing man who was admired and highly respected and will be missed by so many.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Priscilla; their two daughters, Kelly Gotto Laracuente (Karl Borkowski), Tammy Gotto Kubesh (Todd Blodgett); three grand-children, Mitchell Kubesh, Gina Kubesh (Luke Lueders) and Arianna Laracuente; an Aunt, Gloria Huber (Thomas); many special nephews, nieces and cousins; special friends, David McDonald and the rest of the Sunday morning ‘crew’; former sons-in-law, Doug Kubesh and Eric Laracuente.
He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Amelia Gotto; his siblings, Ella, Francis, John, Susanne and Robert and many cherished friends including Francis (Cussy) Arsenault Sr., and David Martin Sr.
