SOUTH PORTLAND — Joshua Seal, 36, was dedicated to his four children, from getting them up in the morning to lying down with them in the evening, according to his obituary. He enjoyed family gatherings and holidays with his family, children and wife of 14 years.

As a certified deaf interpreter, he helped interpret several news conferences, most notably the pandemic briefings, according to his obituary. He was the director of interpreting services for Pine Tree Society and spent seven years as an educational technician for Maine Educational Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, acting as a strong advocate for students and the deaf community.

Seal was at Schemengees Bar & Grille on Oct. 25 participating in a cornhole tournament with deaf friends.

A memorial with visiting hours from 3-6 p.m. is scheduled Wednesday at 345 Clarks Pond Parkway, South Portland, with the funeral service following at 6 p.m. Instead of flowers, family members are asking that people make contributions in Seal’s name to Camp Dirigo Experience through Pine Tree Camp.
