Sister Rita Larivière

SAINT-HYANCINTHE, Quebec – Sister Rita Larivière, 95, died at the Generalate of the Sisters of Charity of Saint-Hyacinthe on Dec. 10, 2023. Born on July 13, 1928, in Biddeford, she was the daughter of Oliva and Yvonne (Prince) Larivière. She was a member of the Sisters of Charity of Saint-Hyacinthe since 1947.

From 1953 to 1969 Sr. Rita ministered in Children’s Homes in Rochester and Manchester, New Hampshire as well as in Scarborough and Lewiston.

From 1969 to 1979, she was responsible for maintenance at St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston. After retirement, Sr. Rita continued for 18 years to care for the properties of the Sisters of Charity in Lewiston.

From 1997 to 2010, she was a Pastoral care volunteer volunteered at St. Marguerite d’Youville Pavilion in Lewiston. In 2010 Sr. Rita moved to the Généralate of the Sisters of Charity, in Saint-Hyacinthe, Québec, Canda, where for 12-and-a-half years she was present to the sisters in the infirmary of the Sisters of Charity.

Sr. Rita is survived by her sister Estelle of Bridgton, and by several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place Monday, Dec. 18, 2023, beginning at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral mass at 2 p.m., in the chapel of the Sisters of Charity of Saint-Hyacinthe Généralate, burial will follow in the Community cemetery.
