JAY — Jace Bessey scored a game-high 20 points to help Spruce Mountain top Mountain Valley 51-39 in an MVC boys basketball game Thursday.
Austin Armandi and Caleb Shaw pitched in with nine points apiece for the Phoenix (5-1).
Tanner Henry and Jake New shared team-high scoring honors for the Falcons (2-5), with 13 points each.
MT. ABRAM 72, OAK HILL 35: Payton Mitchell led a balanced scoring attack as the Roadrunners (6-0) remained unbeaten with a home win over the Raiders (1-5) in Salem Township.
Mitchell led all scorers with 20 points and Cam Grey pitched in with 17 for Mt. Abram, which had all 10 players who took the court score at least two points.
Landon Denis paced Oak Hill with 11 points and Eli Desmond was right behind him with 10.
CHEVERUS 56, OXFORD HILLS 37: A trio of double-digit scorers and a decisive second quarter sent the Stags (7-2) past the Vikings (3-3) in Paris.
Leo McNabb, Gio St. Onge and Rocco DePatsy each tallied 12 points for Cheverus, which outscored Oxford Hills 16-7 in the second quarter after the first quarter ended in a 14-14 tie.
Holden Shaw led the Vikings with 10 points. Brayden Murch added eight.
MONMOUTH 67, TELSTAR/GOULD 42: Sammy Calder scored 30 points, including 19 in the first half, to pace the Mustangs (6-1) past the Rebels (3-3) in Monmouth.
Calder put up 10 points in the opening quarter on five field goals, then added nine more in the second with a 3-pointer a three two-point field goals.
Bingham Abbott finished with 10 points for Monmouth, while Levi Laverdiere tallied nine, Kyle Palleschi eight and Lucas Harmon scored seven.
Reiley Hedden hit six 3s and scored 23 points for Telstar/Gould, and Brady Morgan contributed nine points.
GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 82, MASSABESIC 43: Nate Hebert tossed in 22 points, and the Patriots (8-1) eased past the Mustangs (0-7) in Waterboro.
John Patenaude finished with 13 points.
Andrew Boulanger had seven points for Massabesic.
WINDHAM 74, LEWISTON 62: Tyrie James scored 23 points and the Eagles (7-0) stormed back in the fourth quarter to beat the Blue Devils (1-8) in Lewiston and remain undefeated.
Adrian Moody (14 points), Blake McPherson (13) and Quinton Lindsay (10) all reached double-digit scoring for Windham, which outscored Lewiston 26-5 in the final eight minutes.
Abdirahman Dakane paced the Blue Devils with 21 points. Michael Klick, Jeffrey Randall and Lonnie Thomas each added eight.
WINSLOW 53, LEAVITT 29: Braden Rodrigue’s 24-point effort led the Black Raiders (4-3) over the Hornets (2-6) in Turner.
Matt Quirion added 10 points and Carter Calvo contributed nine for Winslow, which outscored Leavitt 18-7 in the second quarter and 17-7 in the fourth.
Thirteen players saw action for the Hornets, who were led by Mason Henderson’s eight points.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
CHEVERUS 58, OXFORD HILLS 54: Megan Dearborn’s 3-pointer with 38 seconds to go put Cheverus in front to stay, and the Stags held off Oxford Hills in a Class AA matchup in Portland.
Maddie Fitzpatrick led the Stags with 20 points, including two clinching free throws after Ella Pelletier missed a potential tying shot with three seconds to go.
Dearborn sank two late 3-pointers and finished with 12 points for the Stags (8-0), who completed a season sweep of the reigning state champions.
The Vikings (2-4), who lost at home by 29 points in the teams’ first meeting, got 18 points from Pelletier, 15 from Gabbie Tibbetts and 12 from Maddy Miller.
LEWISTON 41, WINDHAM 36: A three-headed attack and a regroup after the first quarter pushed the Blue Devils (6-2) to a road win over the Eagles (2-6) in Windham.
Koral Morin and Natalie Beaudoin each scored 14 points and Ellie Legare pitched in with 13, accounting for all the points for Lewiston, which trailed 14-7 after one quarter.
Stella Jarvis scored 14 points for Windham. Brianna Duarte added 11.
GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 52, FALMOUTH 37: The Patriots (7-2) overcame a poor start and powered past the Navigators (1-7) in Falmouth.
Ali Portas provided solid shooting from all three spots, scoring 21 points on four 2-pointers, three 3s and four free throws. Izzy Morelli scored all 12 of her points in the second half, when the Patriots erased deficits of 16-4 and 23-16 thanks to a 25-7 fourth quarter.
Ella Kenney added 10 points for Gray-New Gloucester.
Emily Abbott paced Falmouth with 13 points. Maddy Christman scored 11.
BOYS HOCKEY
LEAVITT/GRAY-NG/OAK HILL/POLAND 5, FRYEBURG/LAKE REGION/OXFORD HILLS 3: The Kings survived the Ice Cats’ third-period comeback attempt at Bridgton Ice Arena in Bridgton.
Brody Emond scored two third-period goals and added an assist in the stanza for the Kings. Parker Pelletier also scored in the period for Poland/Leavitt/Oak Hill/Gray-New Gloucester for a 5-1 lead.
Will Keach scored in the first and Conner Boulay had a tally in the second for the Kings.
Kolbie Kaeser scored early in the third for Lake Region/Fryeburg Academy/Oxford Hills, while Conner Richard and Myles Willimann scored late in the game.
Cohen Carter and Gunner Truman each had two assists in the loss.
Kade Knight made 20 saves in the win and Charlie Herrick stopped 31 shots in the loss.
