TURNER — A public hearing Wednesday night on amendments to the Zoning Ordinance focused on regulations for commercial solar farms, Town Manager Kurt Schaub said.
The amendments would better define where they can be located and requirements for setback and visual buffering, he said.
A commercial solar farm proposed last year raised a lot of concern from residents on its location and visual impacts.
Voters rejected amendments for commercial solar farms at the annual Town Meeting on April 15, 2023, and decided to place a 180-day moratorium on any ones, Schaub said.
The Select Board did not extend the ban because it thought one of the legal requirements for moratoriums to be in place was not being met.
The amendments being proposed are a renewed effort to address public concerns about commercial solar farms while also allowing them in town, Schaub said.
Commercial solar farm applications are being reviewed under the standards for public utilities in the town’s Zoning Ordinance.
At a future meeting, the Select Board will consider if the proposed amendments should be placed on this year’s annual Town Meeting warrant for voters to make a decision.
