SKOWHEGAN — A bomb threat forced closure of the Walmart Supercenter in Skowhegan for more than an hour Saturday night, police said.

Police responded at about 9 p.m. to a report of a note having been found inside a men’s restroom at the store that claimed a bomb would go off at 10 p.m., according to Chief David Bucknam of the Skowhegan Police Department.

The store at 60 Fairgrounds Market Place, off Madison Avenue, was evacuated while police searched with a bomb-sniffing dog that was brought in to assist officers, according to Bucknam.

No bomb was found, Bucknam said, and the store reopened by 10:30 p.m.

Police said Sunday they were continuing to investigate the incident, including efforts to identify who had left the note.
