OXFORD – John “Jack” B. Greenleaf, 91, of Oxford went home to the tender care of his God and Savior, Jesus Christ and reunited into the loving arms of his late wife, Evelyn F. (Alice) Greenleaf, on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2024.
He was born in Rhode Island on Dec. 17, 1932, one of six children of Bertell and Elizabeth (Clem) Greenleaf. He was an automobile enthusiast and was the proud owner of Jack’s Auto Ignition in Cranston, R.I.
He married the first love of his life at just the age of 18 on Sept. 20, 1951 of 63 years, Evelyn F. (Alice) (Lawton) Greenleaf. Jack and Alice had the greatest love story until her passing on June 30, 2015. His heart was so big, he had more love to give and lived the rest of his life to the fullest with his girlfriend, Janet Quackenbush of Foster, R.I., by his side. It was like he was a teenager all over again, driving from Maine to Rhode Island every weekend to pick his girlfriend up and go out dancing. Even if that meant driving too fast to get there and getting pulled over.
Anyone who got the honor of meeting Jack knew what a real genuine man looked like. He was the most loyal person you’d meet. He was a hard worker, funny, and had a heart of gold. He was always putting others first and doing whatever he could to help them. He was a devoted Husband, Boyfriend, one of a kind Father, a dependable Brother, and an endearing and compassionate Grandfather and Great Grandfather. He was an all around a generous and kind hearted man.
At the age of 20, he enlisted in the National Guard Army and served from 1952-1962. He spent a lifetime fulfilling his passion of restoring antique cars and became a nationally-recognized expert, winning many first places. There were many vehicles that when judged, his hard work earned him a perfect 100 points. “He’s nonchalant about his perfect score—after all, perfection is what he aims for.”- Sun Journal He was the best at what he did.
Jack Greenleaf is survived by his two sons, Stevan E. Greenleaf and his wife Denise of Kittery and Ronald B. Greenleaf and his wife Kathy of No. Scituate, R.I., two daughters, Diane G. Fitzgibbons and her husband Paul of Groveland, Mass. and Denise Greenleaf Bourne of Coventry, R.I.; grandchildren, Jonathan (Tristen), Stefanie Greenleaf, Courtenay (Arik) Greenleaf Torren, Chrissy (Dave) Giroux, Jaclyn (Jarrod) Winsor, Joseph Hutter, Natalie (Jeremy) Reynolds, Beau (Britney) Roy, and Elice Roy; great-grandchildren, Gwen, Jobin, Abby, Wyatt, Easton, Baylee, Brandy, Lincoln, Brody, Grafton, Brynlee, Liam, and Jameson; sister, Constance, three brothers, Richard (Frank), Alan, and Gordon.
