INDUSTRY — The town of Industry will be holding election of town officers and annual town meeting on Saturday, March 9, at the Industry Town Hall, 1033 Industry Road. Polls will open at 8 a.m. and will stay open until 1 p.m., with the town meeting slated to follow at 2 p.m.
The town will be voting on the positions for selectmen/assessor and RSU 9 representative, both of which are three year terms. Mark Prentiss will be running for the position of selectman and Richard Ruhlin will be running for the position of RSU 9 representative, both uncontested.
Along with the elected positions, the town will be voting on 39 articles, which include an article to appropriate $75,000 for the purchase of a used fire truck engine/pumper with $50,000 coming from taxation and up to $25,000 from the town’s undesignated surplus [Article 37] and an article to appropriate the sum of $10,000 for the purchase of a new Fisher Poly-Caster Hopper sand spreader [Article 38].
The final article, Article 39, will enact the town’s revised dog ordinance, which will replace the ordinance adopted in 2001. The new article outlines the definitions used in each of the seven sections, including “Dog”, “Dangerous Dog”, “Domesticated Animal”, “Nuisance”, and “Wolf Hybrid”.
The article defines a nuisance as “excessive and/or habitual barking, howling, or yelping by any dog or dogs.”
The article lays out the fines for dogs that disturb the peace, which is defined by “biting, chasing, or continued barking or howling or in any other manner, or destroy the property of any person.”
In section 3.2, it states an owner who keeps or maintains a dog or dogs whose barking, howling, or yelping is sustained for one hour or more, or intermittently for three hours, can be heard beyond the boundary of the property on which the dog[s] is/are located, violates this section. Fines for this can range from $50 to $250 for a first violation and $100 to $500 for two or more violations.
