WILTON — The deadline for nomination papers for a seat at the Wilton Board of Selectpersons and the Regional School Unit 9 board of directors ended on Friday, April 12.

For the Select Board, Selectperson Philip Hilton will be running uncontested to retain his seat.

For the RSU 9 board of directors, Vice-Chair Gwendolyn Doak will be seeking reelection and will be running against Louise Hiltz.

Doak joined the board in 2021, defeating Tammy Sue Mayhew to take the seat belonging to former chairperson Angela LeClair. Since joining, she has joined the Education Policy Committee and replaced Debbie Smith as Vice-Chair in July of last year.

Hiltz previously ran against Amanda Caruso in June of last year for the seat belong to former director Irv Faunce, with Caruso emerging victorious.

Voters will decide on Tuesday, June 11, at the Wilton Town Office, located at 158 Weld Road.

Wilton will also be holding its annual town meeting the following Monday, June 17, which is still set to be held at Academy Hill School at 585 Depot Street.

The Wilton Select Board and Finance Committee finalized most of the town’s budget at a special meeting on Monday, April 1, with $4.9 million budgeted for general government, public safety, public works, recreation and social services, and community service.

The Select Board is expected to adjust the water district’s budget at the next scheduled meeting on Tuesday, April 23, as well as discuss the town’s warrant articles.

Among the articles that will be presented at the town meeting, the Select Board and the Cannabis Ordinance Committee anticipate having their revised cannabis ordinance ready for the town to vote on.

The committee was formed in July of last year during the drafting of a moratorium that was put into place on all cannabis licenses in October.

The Select Board voted to extend the moratorium an additional 180 days earlier this month.

A special public hearing for the revised ordinances is expected to be announced some time before the town meeting. Selectperson Mike Wells, who also serves as Vice-Chair of the committee, stated at a recent Select Board meeting he believed the ordinances would be completed by the annual town meeting.
