Oxford Plains Speedway opened its 75th season Saturday with eight divisions in action, as the Oxford track transitions to a schedule of one race day each week.

Gone is the Oxford Acceleration Series, which in the past competed on weekdays. All eight current divisions are part of the Oxford Championship series.

The headlining division is the Super Late Models, which had a healthy car count Saturday for its 50-lap feature. Trevor Sanborn topped the 31-car field, with Travis Stearns taking the runner-up spot and Scott McDaniel rounding out the podium. Absent from the field was two-time defending division champion Max Cookson, who is focusing on touring races this season.

Other feature winners included: Zach Bowie (Limiteds), Richard Spaulding (Street Stocks), Corey Morgan (Mad Bombers), Cody Childs (Rebels), William Barker (Cruisers), Jaxson Moreside (Rookies) and Charlie Young (Thunder Stocks).

The only Oxford Championship Series division from the 2023 season that has been discontinued is the Figure 8s. Oxford Acceleration Series divisions from 2023 that have been discontinued are the Ladies, Outlaws, Sport Trucks, Varsity Thunder Stocks and Jr. Rookies.

The Oxford Championship Series returns to action Sunday with a full slate, including a 100-lap qualifier for the track’s July 3 Celebration of America 300.

SUNDAY RAIN DAY

The weekend was supposed to have doubleheader at Oxford Plains, with four touring series in action Sunday.

It turned out to not be a sunny day.

Rain showers in the morning caused some changes to schedule of events, and more rain in the afternoon and evening washed out the Pro All Stars Series SLM feature.

The PASS Modifieds and the Little Webb’s 350 Super Series both got to run their full feature lengths. Ryan Hewins won the 50-lap PASS Mods feature, and Jeffrey Battle captured the checkered flag at the of the 40-lap supermodified race.

The American-Canadian Tour late models were also on the slate, but the Pine Tree State 125 was cut in half after rain halted the feature. Jesse Switser was declared the winner after the race came to a stop following 65 completed green-flag laps. Gabe Brown was in second at the time, and Jonathan Bouvrette third.

The PASS SLMs were able to run their three qualifying heat races, but weren’t able to beat out Mother Nature in time to get the feature in.

The Pro All Stars Series posted on its website that Sunday’s scheduled race will now be run June 9 as part of a doubleheader for the division at Oxford Plains Speedway. That’s the next time the series visits the track, following a stop at White Mountain Motorsports Park in North Woodstock, New Hampshire, on May 19.
