Sixty years ago I was a student at the University of California, Berkeley, and was arrested with 799 others at Sproul Hall. I didn’t know if I would be expelled; it was important to stand up for free speech for Bary Goldwater Republicans as well as Students for a Democratic Society.
Professors bailed us out, and years later the university honored us with the Free Speech Cafe right on campus.
Today, partisan politics are becoming factors even in small towns.
Lee Holman is running for selectboard in Hartford. She has not been a partisan, or even been aware of the politics of other members. She is for Hartford.
Our town has a salt shed, a railroad bed walking trail, solar panels and a generator. Lee has served on multiple town committees.
Those who care about the future of Hartford should vote for Lee.
Elizabeth Garcia-O’Keefe, Hartford
