Former Oxford Hills standout Madi Day and former Buckfield standout Hannah Shields were among six University of Southern Maine softball players to receive All-Little East Conference recognition.

Day and Shields, both seniors, were named to the All-Little East Second Team, along with teammates Makena Mulcahy, Abby Miner and Lexus McIntosh. USM’s Belle Snyder was voted to the first team.

Day, a four-year starter and shortstop, had a career year at the plate for the Huskies and is receiving all-conference honors for the first time. She batted .410 and drove in a team-best 26 runs and scored a team-high 32 runs. She hit the first home run of her career during USM’s 7-4 win over Rhode Island College on Saturday that advanced the fifth-seeded Huskies to the Little East Conference championship round.

Shields is an all-conference honoree for the second straight year. She returned to the Huskies as a graduate student and started all 41 of the team’s games. Playing mostly center and left field, she recorded a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage with 54 putouts and six assists this season. At the plate, she batted .285 with three doubles, 22 RBIs and 20 runs. Shields wraps up her 160-game career with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage, 179 putouts and 10 assists.
