DEAR SUN SPOTS: My beloved 1998 bright orange Mongoose Surge mountain bike was stolen on the Bates campus at the end of last week. If anyone knows of its whereabouts, please contact me at 786-6250.—Tammy, no town

ANSWER: I’m sorry to hear about this, and of course, I’m happy to help. This is a very specific bike with a unique color and features so Sun Spotters who live and work in the campus area, please keep your eyes peeled and notify Tammy — and the authorities if applicable.

Tammy, I hope you’ve reported this to the police and to campus security. Please keep us posted regarding any updates. I hope you and your bike are together again very soon.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Sumner Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary will hold its annual Garage, Bake, Food and Plant Sale at the fire department on Rt. 219 in Sumner on Saturday, June 1 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

ANSWER: Here’s to a beautiful, successful day!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thanks to you, a kind Sun Spotter called me today and reported that she found my lost cane (May 17 Sun Spots). She found it at Walmart, not Home Depot. I’d made a second stop there but I was sure I’d left it at Home Depot — my error. Honest people do exist! Many thanks.—Barbara, no town

ANSWER: Yay! I’m glad I was able to help, and to the person who found your special cane, thank you not only for going the extra mile to contact this fellow Sun Spotter, but for also being a reader of the column.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I recently stopped at Mathieu Saw & Tool, Inc. to have garden tools sharpened. There was a sign on the door that said they were no longer sharpening small tools. I was very disappointed because I’ve been going there for many years for this service. I’m wondering if you have any names in your Rolodex of people who do that kind of work. Thank you for any sources of information.–No name, no town

ANSWER: That is disappointing, as I have recommended the business many times. But have no fear! In the Rolodex I have: Knifing Around in Topsham www.knifingaround.com, 807-4716, knifingaroundllc@gmail.com). All services (they also restore cast iron cookware!) are by appointment only. Another Topsham sharpener is Mainely Saws (729-4864).

Other options are Complete Sharpening Services in Bridgton (completesharpeningservice@gmail.com, 595-3141) and Sharpening Plus in Poland (sean@sharpeningplusme.com, 773-2268).

You may also want to check in with your local hardware stores and garden centers to see if they offer sharpening services.
